X-ray Scattering

We use a variety of state-of-the-art x-ray scattering instruments to analyze the properties of nanomaterials

The Michel group utilizes myriad x-ray scattering techniques including, but not limited to:

  • Total scattering and pair distribution function (PDF) analysis
  • Small angle x-ray scattering (SAXS)
  • Extended x-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy
  • X-ray diffraction or wide angle x-ray scattering (WAXS)

Along with our state-of-the-art scattering equipment on campus, our work takes our students to synchrotron facilities around the world including the Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois, the Brookhaven National Laboratory, and facilities in France, and the European Radiation Synchrotron Facility in France.
