Research Goals: In the long term, I’d like to see this project drive down the price of mixed-flow reactors, since it used to be an expensive venture. The vessels used to be made out of a milled acrylic, making both the labor, machine cost, and material cost all factors in the final price. This will also cause other scientists to manufacture the reaction vessels on desktop-based 3D printers, which are becoming more cost-effective by the minute.
The natural nanomineral we’re trying to synthesize is known as Schwertmannite, and is commonly found after strong acids and bases used in mining are gathered in shallow pools.
